Members Bill Proposal by Liam McArthur MSP
Introduction

I believe that terminally ill adults in Scotland should be able to access safe and compassionate assisted dying if they choose, rather than face a prolonged and painful death.
I am Liam McArthur, MSP for Orkney, and I am consulting on a proposal for a Member’s Bill in the Scottish Parliament which would allow mentally competent adults who are terminally ill to have the choice of an assisted death, if that is their wish.
I know that this this is an issue which attracts a great deal of interest and that many of you will have questions. The consultation document published below will hopefully answer many of those. It sets out the vitally important safeguards which I am putting forward to make sure that an Assisted Dying Bill could be implemented safely and successfully.
I believe there is growing support for change across Scotland – for us to join the 200 million citizens around the world who now have access to safe and legal assisted dying.
My consultation is open, and I want to hear from as many people as possible so please do let me know your views.
